Sprint questions, answered
You’ll collect your race number and everything you need when you register on Saturday 15th May. Registration is open from 2pm–5pm at Kings of Cheddar.
Only in an emergency, and only by prior arrangement with the race organiser — you MUST contact them well in advance to arrange this. There’s no walk-up registration on Sunday, so please register on Saturday if you possibly can.
Bike racking opens at 6:15 and closes 7:55am. The race gets underway from 8:00am, but your own start time depends on your swim wave — check the Swim Start Times download above so you know exactly when you’re off. Aim to arrive with plenty of time to rack your bike and walk the transition area without rushing.
You swim 400m in the 25m indoor pool at Kings of Cheddar, in waves of 4 competitors per lane grouped by your predicted 100m time — so you get clear water. Front strokes only — no backstroke or butterfly. Your individual swim start time is published before race day on the Swim Start Times download above.
So that we can put you in the correct wave, with other people who swim roughly the same pace. You can update it up to 14 days before the event — after that, no changes can be made, no exceptions. Skip it, and you risk a wave that’s either too slow or too fast for you.
It’s the signature challenge of the day — a steady climb up the iconic Cheddar Gorge to the top of the Mendips. Pick an easy gear, settle into your rhythm and it’s over sooner than you think. The ride across Velvet Bottom and Charterhouse afterwards is your reward.
